Irisan was known as "Idisan," a word that means a wood used to grind to make it fine. It became Irisan during the American colonization. It is the largest barangay composed of 33 puroks in the City of Baguio. A place which is thickly forested with pine trees and which accommodates the first families in the said barangay.
Luna, Bugnay, Smith, Binay-an, and other families were the first settlers even when the barangay was still a part of Tuba Benguet.
Virginia Luna, daughter of Catalino Pablo was one of the first settlers. She was from Barlig who was married to Lopez Oseo and to Felix Luna, an Ibaloi after her separation from Oseo. She is a market vendor and a good businesswoman. Her first husband Oseo was the widest land owner. Next to him were Pucay who owned Cypress and Smith who owns the Dumpsite area.
The known forest became industrialized and was converted into residential. It simply means that, NOTHING'S PERMANENT and that EVERYTHING CHANGES as time pass by.
